Shenzhen Longhua: A Confluence of Culture, Sports, and Design

Designed by Peng Xiao Hua, the Longhua Cultural and Sports Center is a testament to innovative architecture and design.

Shenzhen Longhua, a cultural and sports center designed by Peng Xiao Hua, is a masterpiece that seamlessly blends architecture, design, and technology. Inspired by the intricate geometry of a snail's shell and the spirit of human flight embodied in a dragonfly's wings, this project is a testament to the power of nature and its influence on design.

Located in the Longhua District of Shenzhen city, Guangdong Province, the Longhua Cultural and Sports Center stands as a beacon of urban development. With a sprawling building area of 135,000 square meters, the center integrates a stadium, gymnasium, group center, book city, and leisure square, making it a hub of culture, sports, and leisure activities.

The unique properties of this design lie in its material and construction. The walls are made of GRG material, known for its high strength, hardness, and flexibility. This allows for a design that can take on any shape, much like the spring of a snail's shell. The ground is made of terrazzo, a material that is dust-proof, anti-slip, non-cracking, non-deformable, non-combustible, anti-aging, and anti-corrosion. This ensures a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish.

The project covers an area of 84,597 m2, with a total construction area of 144,300 m2, including an interior design area of 27,000 m2. It is a testament to the designer's vision and meticulous planning. The design concept, referred to as the 'eye of life', is a reflection of Peng Xiao Hua's belief in the real beauty of nature and a return to the real nature.

The design process was not without its challenges. The main question was how to inject the relationship between the city and its people into cultural and sports centers. The solution was found in the balance between movement and stillness. Movement is exhibition, stillness is accumulation. This balance creates a wonderful space play, making the cultural center a stage where life unfolds.

The design project started in July 2019 in Shenzhen and was completed in April 2020. It was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2022, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation. The Longhua Cultural and Sports Center is not just a building, but a symbol of the confluence of culture, sports, and design.
